The RAeS Montreal Branch (RAeSMB) is one of over 60 branches worldwide and our vision is to provide a network and forum for the aerospace community in eastern Canada, to stimulate challenging dialogue on aerospace issues and articulate conclusions to representative bodies, and to mentor development of aerospace personnel.
Montreal is also home to educational institutions having dedicated aviation-related programs: the International Centre for Aviation Management Education and Research (AMERC), the Institute of Aerospace Design and Innovation (CIADI), McGill University with the Association for the Development of Aerospace Medecine (ADAM), the Air & Space Law Institute, and the Master in Aerospace Engineering program, the Ecole de Technologie Superieure; Ecole Polytechnique de Montreal; and the Ecole Nationale d’Aerotechnique.

Central to the Royal Aeronautical Society Montreal Branch are events which promote the exchange of aerospace knowledge. The Branch has a calendar of lectures with a sprinkling of field visits and social events. There are three main areas of events: Themed Lectures, annual Assad Kotaite Lectures and Nancy-Bird Walton Lectures.
Most lectures are open to the public.
Themed Lectures
The program of Themed Lectures is flexible and covers a variety of topics; technical, economics, regulatory/legal, and occasionally military subjects.
Assad Kotaite Lectures
In 2004, the Montreal Branch of the Royal Aeronautical Society established an annual named lecture in tribute to Dr. Assad Kotaite FRAeS, long-standing President of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), Fellow of the RAeS, and past president of the Montreal Branch This is the most prestigious event of the year for the Branch.
Nancy-Bird Walton Lectures
In 2016, the Montreal Branch established a named lecture in tribute to Nancy-Bird Walton AO, OBE, DStJ, pioneering Australian aviatrix and founder/patron of the Australian Women Pilots’ Association. In the 1930S, defying the traditional role of females of her time, she became a fully qualified pilot at the age of 19 and the youngest Australian woman to gain a pilot’s license.
